New assistant coach for Orlando Pride as old MLS stager checks in

There was a big announcement for the Orlando Pride yesterday as it was confirmed by the Orlando Sentinel among other sources that ex-Major League Soccer professional Khano Smith has been appointed assistant coach of the new NWSL franchise.

A well-known name in MLS circles, former Bermuda international Smith represented New England Revolution 100 times in the league while also turning out for the New York Red Bulls back in 2009, not to mention a brief spell in England with Lincoln City as part of a playing career that began back in 2003.

Now 34-years-old, Smith was still playing soccer as early ago as 2014 for USL Premier Development League franchise Real Boston Rams but has more recently made a name for himself off the field in an assistant coaches’ role at Southern New Hampshire University.

But Smith’s well-rounded experience in North American soccer doesn’t stop there, not one jot!

As referenced by The Mane Land, The Bermudian also took up a youth player development co-ordinator’s role with his much cherished New England Revolution as well ensuring that the Orlando Pride have taken on an individual who has every chance of making even more of a name for himself during his time in Central Florida.

Speaking in glowing terms regarding his appointment, Orlando Pride manager Tom Sermanni noted: “Khano comes to us with tremendous experience across many levels, including professional play, youth development and broadcasting.

“His experiences on and off the field are an important piece of the puzzle to help prepare the team for a positive 2016 season.”
