Orlando City SC part company with 20-year-old midfielder

Having been on the fringes of Orlando City SC’s squad at best last season, the Lions have now taken the decision to waive 20-year-old defensive midfielder Estrela.

Failing to make a single appearance for Adrian Heath’s side in Major League Soccer last season, the Portuguese with the flamboyant hairstyle only achieved game time in two friendly encounters against both West Bromwich Albion and Louisville City.

With Devron García having arrived at the Citrus Bowl of late, given the fact that the Honduran can operate in Estrela‘s holding role, it was quite clear that he was going to be surplus to requirements again this campaign.

Having said that, we wish Estrela the best of luck with his career going forward because after all, the midfielder was part of the ranks in the Lions’ USL days, appearing six times in the club’s 2014 campaign.

And for those with good memories, they’ll remember that the former Benfica youth academy product actually started his Orlando career in the best way possible.

Here’s Estrela below (18 seconds into the video) scoring a goal on his debut just eight minutes into a fixture against the Richmond Kickers back in August 2014!
