Tommy Redding to fill the void of a potential veteran CB?

As we embark on the 2016 MLS campaign, Orlando City SC head into the new season with Aurélien Collin, Conor Donovan, Seb Hines, David MateosDevron García and Tommy Redding as options at centre back with everybody fit.

But it is the very last player on that list who faces a huge 2016 with Redding now in his third season as a professional.

As we all know, Redding didn’t get the minutes he desired last season and when he did feature, he suffered that horrendous head clash with Rafael Ramos.

But given the fact the Lions haven’t gone out and signed a veteran Sean St Ledger type so far this off-season, Adrian Heath clearly has designs on Redding stepping up?

While some Lions fans crave a new veteran DP arriving in addition to Nocerino’s signature, it appears as if there is clear faith in youth judging by Heath’s latest comments.

“We’ve been through it and we’ve spoke to him (Redding), that he’s not a young boy anymore, he’s got experience at this level.

“If he wasn’t capable of it, we wouldn’t expect it, but we do. He’s got to be pushing these (other defenders) every step of the way.

“I think he can be a starter in the MLS, but a lot of that will be determined by his attitude Monday to Friday and the way he approaches training.”
