Orlando; you’ve only gone and done it again haven’t you!?

Another fantastic moment of history was etched into Citrus Bowl folklore yesterday evening as Tom Sermanni‘s Orlando Pride sealed their FIRST EVER victory in NWSL.

Emerging 3-1 victors over Houston Dash in front of a league record 23,403 supporters in Central Florida, this wonderful support yet again underlined The City Beautiful as the true Soccer Capital of the South!

Undefeated after their first two games in their inaugural season as an NWSL franchise, yesterday’s victory over the Dash followed on from the point the Pride earned from their 1-1 draw at Portland Thorns last Sunday on the opening day of the new campaign.

Starting as they mean to carry on, Orlando Pride laid a second-half siege on the Dash’s net with all of their three goals coming after the break through an Andressa own goal, a quick Lianne Sanderson free-kick and a tap in from captain Alex Morgan.

Andressa own goal – 1-0

Lianne Sanderson – 2-0

Alex Morgan – 3-0

So there you have it.

The Pride are up and running and in front of a record-breaking crowd to boot!

Scottish coach Tom Sermanni couldn’t hide his delight at the full-time whistle, claiming to the Orlando Sentinel: “The crowd has taken this league to a new level.

“It wasn’t just the number… it was the passion, it was the colour, it was the way they supported the team.

“Hopefully we did enough tonight to make them want to come back and watch the rest of our games.”
