PLAYER RATINGS: Jacksonville Armada vs Orlando City SC – 15.06.2016

Following a truly tragic week for the city of Orlando, at least Orlando City SC managed to provide a positive escape for at least 90 minutes with a 0-1 win last night.

Defeating Florida rivals Jacksonville Armada of NASL in the fourth round of the 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at Southern Oak Stadium, David Mateos struck the solitary goal in the second-half.

In a tight encounter between the duo, Adrian Heath‘s Lions went close in the first-half through both Julio Baptista and Carlos Rivas.

However, it was the unlikely Mateos who latched onto a flick-on header from Baptista himself who successfully connected with an Antonio Nocerino corner just after the hour mark.

Orlando City SC will now embark on a fifth round tie against fellow Florida rivals Fort Lauderdale Strikers on June 29th at Camping World Stadium.

Speaking after last night’s 0-1 triumph at Southern Oak Stadium, coach Adrian Heath revealed his relief after an extremely crushing week for the city of Orlando.

“Overall, with getting a victory, I’m really, really pleased after what’s been a really trying and difficult few days for us.

“Our supporters and the people of our city are part of the DNA of our football club. They’re woven into the fabric of everything we’ve done.

“We feel their pain like everybody else, and if for a couple hours tonight we took their minds of something, it’s been good.”

The first time a sports team from Orlando have participated in competition since the tragic shooting on Sunday June 12th, the show of support from both Jacksonville Armada fans and Orlando City SC supporters was absolutely fantastic.

This is not to mention the hundreds of #OrlandoUnited tributes pouring in from fellow sports organisations and entities right around the globe.

With an incredibly emotional game to come against San Jose Earthquakes in Major League Soccer at Camping World Stadium on Saturday, here’s how I thought the OCSC players performed against Jacksonville Armada yesterday evening.
