Orlando City SC are closing in on the signing of 23-year-old Uruguayan centre back José Aja according to a report from Univision.

With the Major League Soccer transfer window having opened on Monday, it appears Adrian Heath is moving quick to sure up a leaky backline that has conceded 29 goals so far in 2016.

Defeated 4-0 on the road at FC Dallas last time out on July 4th, Orlando City SC can only call upon Tommy Redding, Seb Hines and David Mateos as first team centre back options right now with Aurélien Collin having departed back in April.

It looks certain that José Aja has no future with current club side Nacional after the report confirmed his manager Martín Lasarte isn’t counting on the Uruguayan defenders’ services for the forthcoming campaign.

With the Orlando Sentinel corroborating the news that Aja is indeed in negotiations with Orlando City SC at the minute, it’s reassuring that the Lions are actively looking to reinforce a problem area as soon as possible.

After all, the Orlando Sentinel also reported recently that Orlando City SC‘s proposed deal to sign Stoke City’s Slovakian defender Dionatan Teixeira might not be as straightforward as first thought.

City boss Adrian Heath recently revealed doubts on Teixeira’s potential arrival claiming: “It’s a lot more complicated than we always think because you’re worried about: Are they going to get a visa? Can they pass the medical?

“So, there’s loads of other stuff to do. As much as I identify him, then you have the other side of it — is he physically capable?”

With the club having previously taken a look at both Gavin Gunning and A.J. Soares on trial before turning their attention elsewhere, the interest in José Aja looks far more concrete at this point.
