After Orlando Pride revealed who they are retaining for 2017 last month, Tom Sermanni‘s side completed a deal to sign their first off-season arrival today.

United States international defender and 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup champion Ali Krieger joins Orlando Pride in a trade with Washington Spirit.

With Orlando Pride trading ownership of their second-overall spot in the Distribution Ranking Order to land Krieger, Sermanni’s side now sit in ninth on that list.

Capped a mighty 95 times by the United States Women’s National Team, 32-year-old Krieger is one of the most instantly recognisable names in women’s soccer and brings tremendous experience to Orlando Pride.

Leading Washington Spirit all the way to the 2016 NWSL Final whereby they ultimately lost out to Western New York Flash, Orlando Pride head coach Tom Sermanni was delighted with the capture.

Speaking about Krieger’s arrival in Central Florida, Sermanni claimed: “We’re ecstatic to get Ali Krieger to the club; she’s one of the best players in the country.

“She’s extremely experienced, a great leader, great personality and a great signing for us leading into 2017.

“I think she’ll help both on the field and off the field. She’s a real, thorough professional so her preparation will start to influence and help our younger players.

“Her focus and her quality in her training and play will be a huge asset to the team.”
