An experienced defensive recruitment we all crave could be just around the corner for Orlando City SC with Paul Tenorio claiming a deal to sign Jonathan Spector is almost done.

The 30-year-old United States international defender is currently with Birmingham City of the Football League Championship but Blues boss Gianfranco Zola has already confirmed Spector is leaving St. Andrew’s.

FourFourTwo’s Paul Tenorio – former Orlando City SC columnist at the Orlando Sentinel – tweeted on Friday that the deal to take Jonathan Spector to Orlando City Stadium will be completed via a discovery claim.

With a deal to sign Bordeaux’s Grégory Sertic now looking dead in the water, Spector is three years older than the Frenchman but boasts 14 years of first team experience in English football.

Representing Manchester United, Charlton Athletic, West Ham United and Birmingham City in that timeframe, the Illnois-born defender has played in the Premier League, Championship and even the Europa League with the Blues in the 2011/12 campaign.

Jonathan Spector, capped 36 times by the United States Men’s National team, is a versatile professional and is not only capable of playing at centre back but also right back and in defensive midfield too.

Orlando City UK is watching this space for any further developments in this interesting story.
