Orlando City SC have successfully acquired Dom Dwyer from Sporting Kansas City in exchange for up to $1.6 million in allocation money.

After Kansas City Star writer Sam McDowell broke news of the trade at 6:27pm, Orlando City SC‘s Alex Leitão announced the deal himself via Facebook Live at 7pm.

The transfer sees Dom Dwyer reunited with Orlando City SC for a second time having helped the Lions claim the USL title after an incredibly successful loan spell back in 2013.

Scoring 15 goals in 13 USL appearances that season, Dom Dwyer also attended the University of South Florida during his collegiate years in 2011.

No strange to Central Florida, Dom Dwyer rejoins the Lions at a time where we need him the most.

The fee

The deal to sign Dom Dwyer involves an exchange of $400,000 in General Allocation Money and $500,000 in Targeted Allocation Money, plus up to $700,000 in future Allocation Money based on his performance.

Orlando City SC had a lot of Allocation Money to play with following Kevin Molino‘s hefty January trade to Adrian Heath‘s Minnesota United.

When will he be available?

Alex Leitão revealed that Orlando City SC are currently making arrangements for Dom Dwyer to board a flight to Orlando International Airport imminently with the player potentially available to face Atlanta United on Saturday.

Our CEO could not reveal what squad number Dom Dwyer will wear with Giles Barnes the current occupant of the striker’s favoured number 14 jersey.

A new USMNT star

Only recently making his USMNT debut under Bruce Arena, 26-year-old Dwyer has already scored two goals in three appearances for the Stars and Stripes, once against Ghana and once against Panama in the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

A game changing signing

A major deal in Major League Soccer history, many are billing Orlando City SC‘s signing of Dom Dwyer as a game changer with the striker having scored 57 goals in 128 MLS appearances for Sporting KC.

Currently, Orlando City SC have scored the third fewest amount of goals (22) in MLS so far this season but the capture of Dom Dwyer should go a long way to improving that tally.
