The Orlando City SC off-season blues have been temporarily abandoned after it was reported yesterday that Darwin Cerén (@CerenDarwin) has been crowned the best Latino footballer in Major League Soccer for 2015.
Officially entitled the Latino del Año award, City’s El Salvadorian international defensive midfielder beat off competition from the Lions’ very own DP Kaka, not to mention Vancouver Whitecaps’ Kendall Waston and FC Dallas’ flying winger Fabian Castillo to scoop the prize.
Making 26 MLS appearances for Adrian Heath’s side this past season, Cerén further underlined his status as Mr dependable in the heart of the Lions’ midfield having steadily become a fan favourite since joining the club in their USL days back in 2014.
While everybody at the Citrus Bowl is of course well acquainted with Cerén’s rugged style, breaking up the play efficiently while forcefully protecting the back line, his status will only rise with this latest acknowledgement boosting his kudos in turn.
Here’s how Lions supporters celebrated the 25-year-old’s fantastic achievement on Twitter…
Congratulations to #OCSC midfielder Darwin Cerén who was named 2015 #MLS Latino del Año.
