If you were based in the Orlando area on Tuesday evening, there was only one event to head to!

Orlando City SC performed an open practice session at the Citrus Bowl giving fans a chance to see the team train while receiving those sought-after autographs and selfies.

But the two major takeaways from Tuesday night were one, the fact that the Lions’ new away jersey for 2016 has now officially been launched and two, Cyle Larin will now boast squad number 9 for the forthcoming campaign after ditching number 21.

With the new away jersey having been leaked back on February 7th, the early picture proved to be totally accurate with Adrian Heath’s side now boasting purple sleeves on the road.

While a lot of Lions supporters were initially unimpressed with Adidas’ latest effort with 50% of fans responding ‘WTF Adidas’ to an Orlando City UK poll asking them about the brand new look, we’ve now seen a lot more of the subtle design elements during launch, those being…

  • A new shiny Orlando City SC crest
  • A ‘traditional’ looking collar
  • The club motto written in Spanish, English and Portuguese inside the collar – Superando las Expectativas / Defy Expectations / Superando Expectativas
  • The Orlando City SC lion head on the back of the collar
  • Iconic three Adidas stripes down the sides of the jersey

And what’s more, there’s a new club hashtag to start using on social media with #NeverHuntAlone being the official line conceived by the Lions to promote the new jersey.

But speaking of jerseys, Cyle Larin might have some explaining to do to fans who may have already purchased his ‘Larin 21’ jersey for 2016 or alternatively were hoping to get some more wear out of their kit from last season!

It has been confirmed that the MLS Rookie of the Year for 2015 will now wear squad number 9 for the forthcoming Major League Soccer campaign.

Recently completing the same jersey number switch for the Canadian national team as well, Larin has made the transition to 9 given the fact he’s “always worn number nine” and “scored with number nine”.

With the new season drawing ever closer now, next up on Orlando City SC’s itinerary is an eagerly anticipated pre-season friendly with fellow Florida side Jacksonville Armada of NASL on Saturday.
