A day after Aurélien Collin was traded to New York Red Bulls, it appears Orlando City SC are making moves to sign his replacement with 25-year-old Irish centre back Gavin Gunning being lined up.
As reported by the Evening Telegraph, Gunning has already been told he can leave Scottish Premier League outfit Dundee United with the defender having spent a week-long trial with Adrian Heath’s Lions after falling out of favour with Mixu Paatelainen.
With Orlando City SC thought to be impressed by what they’ve seen from Gunning who has also represented both Blackburn Rovers and Birmingham City in England, the report claims terms are set to be agreed.
Outcast at Dundee United following an incident whereby Gunning exited the field of play with the ball against Inverness Caledonian Thistle earlier this month, the Irishman hasn’t figured since that fixture back on April 9th.
Ever since, Gunning has been invited to keep fit at Dundee United’s St Andrews training complex but Gunning has of course made moves to fast forward his exit from Scotland, having taken up Orlando City SC’s offer of a trial.
If signed, Gunning would become the fourth Irishman to represent Orlando City SC after James O’Connor, Sean St Ledger and Kyle Callan-McFadden.
While Orlando City UK watches this space for any further developments, here’s a little more information on Gunning, not to mention that bizarre departure from the field against Inverness!
