According to a report from the Orlando Sentinel yesterday, Orlando City SC have reached a verbal agreement to loan Bryan Róchez to former club Real España for six months.
The Lions’ Designated Player has spent time on loan with Orlando City B in USL this term after failing to make a statement in City’s first team.
Now returning to where it all began in his Honduran homeland, the Orlando Sentinel’s report claims the club are still determining whether Bryan Róchez will maintain his current DP status.
Because essentially, Orlando City SC supporters have been lamenting the waste of Bryan Róchez’s Designated Player slot in USL where it could be better served in Major League Soccer.
In an Orlando City UK feature that explored whether DP status is criminally overlooked by Orlando City SC back in May, both Carlos Rivas and Bryan Róchez were amongst the top 10 current Major League Soccer DP’s receiving the fewest opportunities so far in 2016.
Whether Bryan Róchez’s DP status can be revoked mid-season however, this looks unlikely.
Alicia DelGallo’s report carries quotes the club that claim: “He’s still our player on a loan, so should hold a DP spot unless released.”
According to an MLS Players Union report in May, Bryan Róchez’s 2016 salary amounts to $259,500.
With club captain Kaká having missed a large proportion of the Lions’ games so far in 2016, you can see why some Orlando City SC fans are questioning the true worth they’re getting from all of their DP’s right now.
