Addressing a key area of weakness, Orlando City SC completed the noteworthy signature of United States international Jonathan Spector on Tuesday evening (UK time).
The versatile 30-year-old defender joins after mutually agreeing his departure from Birmingham City with the Illinois-native capable of playing at centre back, right back or in defensive midfield.
Yet to play in Major League Soccer but boasting a professional first team CV spanning 14 years, Spector has represented Manchester United, Charlton Athletic, West Ham United and Birmingham City to date.

Significantly boosting an Orlando City SC back line that conceded the most amount of goals (60) in MLS last season, Spector’s arrival makes up for the Lions failing to conclude a deal for Bordeaux’s Grégory Sertic last month.
Becoming Orlando City SC‘s seventh arrival this off-season following the signatures of Donny Toia, Patrick McLain, Victor ‘PC’ Giro, Will Johnson, Danny Deakin and Pierre da Silva, Jonathan Spector will wear the number 2 jersey at Orlando City Stadium.
With OCSC Twitter currently in a frenzy over Jonathan Spector‘s signature, we gathered some of the best tweets following his arrival.

Jonathan Spector is a solid signing for us. Veteran, not too old, experience in difficult leagues. Should bring some stability!

“Spector” is a wicked cool last name to slap on a jersey. Just saying.

@OrlandoCitySC He is very quick, can beat a player or two and superb at Set Pieces. Penalties and free kicks great with a soccer ball.

Not bad price for experienced center back in this league. Hard to find quality CBs for much cheaper. Need him to be day-in, day-out starter https://t.co/rlKJmp0xQv
