With the doors of the MLS Secondary Transfer Window having slammed shut last night, Orlando City SC‘s mid-season signings seemed to stand at two.
That was until news started breaking of a potential last ditch trade deal involving a swap between Colorado Rapids’ Dillon Powers and current Orlando City SC loanee Luis Gil.
According to Goal USA, both the Rapids and Lions have been trying to finalise the trade with Orlando City SC fans currently trawling Twitter for news of any progress on the deal.
Orlando City UK understands that the deal has been complicated by the fact that Luis Gil‘s rights currently belong to his parent club Querétaro.
With Orlando City SC needing to gain club approval from the Mexican side, Lions supporters wait with bated breath to see if we clinched the deal.
Who is Dillon Powers?
As for Dillon Powers himself, the 26-year-old is currently a one-club man in MLS having spent pretty much his entire professional career at Colorado Rapids since making his debut in 2013.
Before then, Dillon Powers interestingly made two appearances for Austin Aztex in 2012 – a rebranded version of the club that later became Orlando City SC of course.
Currently standing fourth in Colorado Rapids’ all-time appearance list with 139 Major League Soccer outings to his name, Dillon Powers would bring an awful lot of league know-how and experience to our midfield.
Luis Gil on his way?
As for Luis Gil, the twice-capped USMNT player has struggled for regular game time at Orlando City Stadium and has mostly been a bit-part player under Jason Kreis.
If Dillon Powers does end up signing for Orlando City SC, he will be the Lions’ third capture this summer following both Dom Dwyer and Yoshimar Yotún.
