According to a report by former Orlando Sentinel reporter Paul Tenorio today, Orlando City SC are closing in on a deal to make Louisville City’s James O’Connor their next head coach.
A former Lion who made 41 league appearances for Orlando City SC in their USL guise, Orlando City UK understands James O’Connor is the preferred option should both parties agree terms within negotiations that are now underway.
Now national soccer reporter for The Athletic, Paul Tenorio’s story surfaced today following information from “two sources with direct knowledge of the deal“.
With negotiations “not yet in the final stages“, this story serves as the first firm piece of evidence on just who exactly will be succeeding Jason Kreis following his exit from Orlando City SC two weeks ago.
Yesterday, Taylor Twellman tweeted that Caleb Porter will not be the next Orlando City SC head coach while rumours surrounding former Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari seem to have gone quiet.
Confirming Porter will NOT be the next @OrlandoCitySC coach as he has turned it down over the last 48 hours from what I’m hearing. #MLS https://t.co/qYYlYY2dII

Currently third in Group A of the USL standings, James O’Connor‘s Louisville City side have also taken huge plaudits for reaching the quarter-finals of the 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup where they stand as the only non-MLS team in the last eight.
So could 38-year-old Irishman James O’Connor be the next Orlando City SC boss?
Orlando City UK will be keeping a close eye on the latest developments.
