What on Earth has happened to our game management? 🤦🏽‍♂️ For the second straight match, Orlando City SC took a 1-0 lead… and threw it away. Last night’s 1-2 home loss to New York City FC was gutting. Not just because of the result, but because it followed a now-familiar script – take control, waste chances, and collapse late. Further evidence that we’re feeling the pressure, that’s now four games without a win and just two points from twelve. It’s hard to believe this is the same team that dismantled Inter Miami 0-3 back in May.

With our season slipping away, we need to respond and fast. Saturday sees the Lions travel to Gillette Stadium to face New England Revolution – a team sitting 11th but desperate to claw their way back into the playoff picture. We’ve only ever won ONCE in Foxborough (1-2-6), but that lone victory (1-3) came just a year ago. A 1-1 home draw against CF Montréal — really? 🤔 Winless against the bottom side this year? Not good enough. 😤 I was gutted by the full-time whistle on Saturday. Prince Owusu’s late penalty not only cost us a much-needed victory but worryingly stretched our winless run to three. Post-game, Ricardo Moreira captured the mood, tweeting: “We’re not here to settle for ‘enough’” – a clear sign of how costly these dropped points felt in the race for the Eastern Conference top four.

Now, Orlando City SC face New York City FC in a crucial midweek showdown at Inter&Co Stadium. Sitting just four points behind us and eager to close the gap, NYCFC are scarred from Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Charlotte FC. But The Pigeons are always a tough opponent, home or away. Battling back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Charlotte FC, there were some positives to take. But also a nagging feeling that we left two points behind. 😤 Yes, we rallied late on – but in a game we largely controlled, a draw doesn’t cut it if we’re serious about breaking into the top four of the Eastern Conference.

Now back at Inter&Co Stadium, Orlando City SC face bottom-of-the-table CF Montréal. And it’s a game we simply have to win! With fifth-placed Inter Miami now one point above us – and holding THREE games in hand – we can’t afford to slip up. Marco Donadel’s side are leaking goals and low on confidence after last weekend’s 1-4 home defeat to The Herons. Orlando City SC ground out a gutsy 0-1 win at Colorado Rapids last time out, halting a mini slide and reminding the league that we’re not going away. Pedro Gallese was immense between the sticks, while Martín Ojeda’s strike proved the difference in a game that tested every ounce of our resilience.

With a well-earned breather since June 14, the Lions head west again to face St. Louis CITY SC. It’s our first-ever visit to Energizer Park, where over 22,000 fans pack the venue week in, week out. St. Louis currently sit fourteenth in the West, so this is another big opportunity to grab all three points. The race at the top of the East is tight, and we’re right in the mix. Chicago Fire burned us real bad, right? 🔥🥵 A relentless but promising May ended on a sour note for Orlando City SC, with back-to-back MLS defeats halting our momentum. After a gruelling nine-game stretch, the Lions have had a much-needed fortnight to rest, reset, and refocus.

Now begins a tough two-game Western road swing, starting with Colorado Rapids at altitude in Commerce City. FLORIDA IS PURPLE!! 😈😏 I don’t know about you but I’m still on a HUGE high after last night! Our 0-3 demolition of Inter Miami at Chase Stadium was a statement win – and our first-ever against Lionel Messi! Oscar Pareja’s Lions have surged from eighth to fifth in just two MLS gameweeks, extending our MLS unbeaten streak to 11 matches – just one shy of our longest MLS run (12 matches, Aug-Oct 2020). With dominant shutout derby wins over Atlanta United (3-0), Tampa Bay Rowdies (0-5), and now Inter Miami (0-3), Papi is masterminding important victories against all the sides we love to hate. So, massive credit to him, the coaching staff, and the players!

Now, focus shifts to this crucial Round of 16 Open Cup tie against Nashville SC at Inter&Co Stadium. Our first home game in the competition since winning it on September 7, 2022, this is a key chance to push for a second U.S. Open Cup title in four seasons. With the likes of Los Angeles FC and Columbus Crew absent, Orlando City SC’s strong form makes a deep cup run very achievable. We couldn’t stop scoring in our first six MLS games – now it’s three without a goal. Football’s a funny old game! Orlando City SC may have extended their unbeaten streak to six matches (2-4-0), but last Saturday’s 0-0 draw at CF Montréal felt just as frustrating as our stalemate against New York Red Bulls. Following our third straight scoreless outing and Rafael Santos’ red card, Oscar Pareja’s Lions return to Inter&Co Stadium to face fierce rivals Atlanta United in a matchup that’s always action-packed.

Still reeling from last Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at 10-man Philadelphia Union – and last season’s Eastern Conference Semi-Final exit at our hands – Atlanta will be out for revenge. But while they’ve spent big – dropping a league-record $22 million on Emmanuel Latte Lath – their results have fallen well short of expectations.
