If you thought Orlando City SC‘s MLS Secondary Transfer Window business was done, you’d be mistaken.

Completing a late, late trade for Colorado Rapids’ Dillon Powers with Luis Gil heading in the other direction, the deal was secured last night but only announced today.

With Orlando City SC currently in the middle of a barren spell that has seen the Lions win just TWO games from 16 MLS fixtures, our mid-season signings have been impressive however.

Following Dom Dwyer and Yoshimar Yotún to Orlando City Stadium this summer, Dillon Powers brings plenty of Major League Soccer experience to Jason Kreis‘ side.

The trade itself

To capture Dillon Powers from Colorado Rapids, Orlando City SC have traded Luis Gil and $100,000 of Targeted Allocation Money to Pablo Mastroeni’s side.

What’s more, Rapids have committed to sending $100,000 in TAM to Real Salt Lake in 2018 while assuming Orlando City SC‘s position in the trade agreement with RSL for Rights of First Refusal to Luis Gil.

While it was initially thought that Gil’s parent club Querétaro may stand in the way of a deal being completed, this didn’t prove to be the case.

Another versatile midfielder

Having made 139 MLS appearances for Colorado Rapids since making his debut in 2013, Dillon Powers can play in a variety of midfield roles.

Scoring 14 goals for Rapids in his time at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, Dillon Powers can hopefully contribute the goals we’ve lacked from midfield since Kevin Molino‘s departure.

On the face of it, you’d imagine Jason Kreis may deploy Dillon Powers as an attacking midfielder.

With Antonio Nocerino, Cristian Higuita and Servando Carasco providing plenty of defensive cover, Powers will be relied upon to provide plenty of service to Cyle Larin and Dom Dwyer.

Farewell Luis Gil

As for Luis Gil, the former Real Salt Lake midfielder departs Orlando City Stadium after just 13 appearances.

Failing to become a regular starter in Jason Kreis‘ plans, Gil now returns to the Western Conference where he enjoyed far greater fortunes with RSL between 2010 and 2015.

How’s the trade going down?

With Orlando City SC supporters currently taking in the news, Orlando City UK gathered the best tweets from Thursday afternoon with Dillon Powers now a Lion!
