According to a report by Portuguese source O Jogo at the weekend, Orlando City SC are interested in pursuing a transfer for Sporting Lisbon forward Nani this off-season.
This news was corroborated by Orlando Sentinel reporter Jordan Culver who tweeted Saturday that a Lions club source confirmed Orlando City SC are interested in the player.
With Orlando City SC having signed over 10 players already this off-season, there has been a huge shift towards recruiting youth with Alex De John and Kyle Smith the oldest new arrivals at 27-years-old.
A clear shift in transfer policy having signed established marquee names such as Justin Meram and Sacha Kljestan last season, some Orlando City SC supporters believe the current group could benefit from a leader; an older and wiser head to guide James O’Connor‘s new-look Lions in 2019.
Earlier this winter, rumours pointed towards Diego Ribas being this figure but with that transfer pursuit ultimately proving a dead end, attention appears to have switched to former Manchester United forward Nani.
That said, O Jogo‘s report claims that Nani hasn’t asked for a transfer with Jordan Culver’s tweet also mentioning that the move is proving “difficult deal to get done”.
Only adding fuel to the fire in the crazy world of transfer rumours, a keen-eyed tweeter spotted that Nani has been following a range of Major League Soccer focused accounts recently.
Make of that what you will.
