A transfer no single Orlando City SC supporter foresaw at the start of MLS All-Star week, there’s a new face through the doors at Exploria Stadium – and it’s an exciting one!

That’s right; Orlando City SC completed the signing of Mauricio Pereyra today, assigning the club’s third Designated Player slot to the Uruguayan.

A ‘number 10’ attacking midfielder by trade, the 29-year-old arrives in Central Florida after his contract expired at Russian Premier League Side FC Krasnodar.

A transfer that only surfaced online yesterday, the Orlando City SC Front Office has been trailing Mauricio Pereyra for quite some time.

Last tasting competitive action back in spring when Mauricio Pereyra brought the curtain down on a six-year stint at the Russian side, he brings experience and genuine quality to James O’Connor’s attacking ranks.

A much-loved figure at FC Krasnodar and a player who was tearful at the end of his final league game for the club back on May 26, the Russian side’s loss is the Lions’ gain.

Taking Josué Colmán’s inactive Designated Player slot in The City Beautiful with the Paraguayan currently on loan at Cerro Porteño, it’s fantastic to see Luiz Muzzi and the Front Office take decisive action in a position of need.

Orlando City SC desperately lack a goalscoring threat from central midfield but with a UEFA Europa League experienced pro like Mauricio Pereyra now on board, he plugs a gap in the vanity position of world football – the famed number 10 role.

Mauricio Pereyra’s squad number is yet to be announced by Orlando City SC but you can follow the midfielder on Instagram at @Mauripa14.

Mauricio Pereyra’s arrival may herald a deviation away from James O’Connor’s favoured flat 4-3-3 formation but while that remains to be seen, here’s how #OCTwitter has been reacting to the news.
