Orlando City SC transfer targets have been thin on the ground since COVID-19 delayed the MLS season but a new name has been linked with the Lions today – Valère Germain.
According to France Football, Oscar Pareja‘s side are one of three clubs interested in signing the 30-year-old Marseille forward whose contract expires in June 2021.
In a translated version of the original report, France Football claim Mainz, Real Valladolid and Orlando City SC are the three clubs tracking the Frenchman.
Who is Valère Germain?
Valère Germain is a 30-year-old centre forward or right winger who plays for Marseille in Ligue 1.
Right footed, Valère Germain has played most of 2019/20 as a right winger. He’s got two goals and five assists in 30 appearances across all competitions this season.
Spending his entire career in France, the Marseille born attacker started out at Monaco with a loan spell at Nice in 2015/16.
Never earning a senior international cap with France, Valère Germain did make four appearances for Les Bleus‘ Under-21 side.
Standing at 5 ft 11 in, Germain’s has been a capable goal getter throughout his entire career. After 2019/20 however, the signs are that he’s now slowing down.
Competing with Darío Benedetto, Dimitri Payet and Florian Thauvin for a regular spot on Marseille’s frontline, the 30-year-old may soon be surplus to requirements.
Do Orlando City SC need Valère Germain?
Linked to Alex Castro, Álvaro García, Vitinho and Florinel Coman since last season, it’s clear Orlando City SC are in the market for attacking reinforcements.
If this rumour is true, a lot would depend on where the Orlando City SC Front Office envisages Valère Germain playing.
Exiled as a right winger at Marseille, it’s unclear whether the Frenchman would be content to play out wide in MLS.
With Orlando City SC currently stacked at centre forward, especially with Dom Dwyer staying and Daryl Dike joining, a move for Valère Germain seems unlikely without anybody leaving.
Nevertheless, Orlando City UK will continue to watch this space.
