According to a Thursday report from Diario AS, Orlando City SC are interested in signing Rayo Vallecano winger Álvaro García this winter.

Journalist Maite Martin claims Oscar Pareja‘s Lions are now targeting the 27-year-old following a failed attempt to sign Alex Castro last month.

Who is Álvaro García?

Álvaro García is a 27-year-old winger who plays for Rayo Vallecano in his Spanish homeland.

Left footed, Álvaro García is capable of playing on the left or right wing but has featured on the left flank in 2019/20.

Spending his entire career in Spain so far, the Andalusian-born midfielder has represented six clubs across nine years.

Starting out with Club Deportivo Utrera, his hometown club, Álvaro García has also played for San Fernando, Granada, Racing Santander, Cádiz, and now Rayo Vallecano.

Interestingly, Álvaro García is the most expensive signing in Rayo history after signing a five-year deal worth €5m in 2018.

Standing at just 5 ft 6 in, García is a diminutive talent who isn’t prolific but is capable of scoring goals from wide.

Scoring 24 times in 115 appearances for Cádiz in the Segunda División, he’s scored two at the same level for Rayo this season.

According to the official Rayo Vallecano website, he’s taken 25 shots, made 304 passes and performed 60 recoveries in 14 starts (1,284 minutes) throughout 2019/20.

Is Álvaro García the final missing piece for 2020?

On Thursday, Orlando City SC CEO Alex Leitão said the Lions are “not done yet” with winter off-season recruitment.

With Oscar Pareja confirming the club’s interest in Alex Castro last month, it appears a winger is the final missing piece in our plans for 2020.

Could that man be Álvaro García?

It’s worth noting, the Diario AS report also claimed a move could be complicated by Rayo Vallecano’s lack of depth right now.

Orlando City UK awaits any developments to this particular transfer rumour.
