Receiving GAM as part of Chris Mueller’s Chicago Fire move, Orlando City SC immediately reinvested it by today announcing the signing of Irish winger Jake Mulraney from Major League Soccer rivals Atlanta United.
A deal completed before MLS’s Primary Transfer Window closed, the Lions have acquired Mulraney after trading $200,000 in General Allocation Money, $100,000 in 2022 and $100,000 in 2023, to The Five Stripes.

Most City supporters might’ve expected Orlando City SC‘s next signing to be a centre back.
Especially after Antônio Carlos was recently ruled out for 12 to 16 weeks with a high hamstring injury.
However, another wide man has now joined in the form of Jake Mulraney.
After Gastón González’s May transfer to Exploria Stadium was scuppered by injury, Jake Mulraney looks a stopgap solution.
Speaking after the deal was confirmed, Executive Vice President of Soccer Operations & General Manager, Luiz Muzzi, said: “Bringing Jake to Orlando is a move that we’re excited about.

Prior to joining MLS, Jake Mulraney‘s professional career began back in 2014.
A youth product of QPR, Mulraney didn’t make the grade there and spent 2015/16 on loan at Dagenham & Redbridge and then Stevenage.
Cutting his teeth in lower echelons of the EFL Football League, these experiences preceded a June 2016 transfer to Scotland.
Joining Inverness Caledonian Thistle on a two-year deal, Jake Mulraney made 52 league appearances for Caley before swapping The Highlands for Edinburgh.
Joining Heart of Midlothian in a swap deal for Angus Beith, Jake Mulraney made 52 appearances for Hearts (all competitions), scoring two goals.
On the international stage, Jake Mulraney has never been capped by the senior Republic of Ireland national team.
However, he’s been capped by The Boys In Green at Under-17, Under-19, and Under-21 level.
Jake Mulraney is anything but a prolific goalscorer.
However, he’s a versatile depth piece who can play multiple positions on the left or right.
The first player to join Orlando City SC from Atlanta United in MLS, Jake Mulraney is also the third-ever Irishman to represent City’s first team.
He follows James O’Connor (2012/14) and Sean St Ledger (2015) before him.

And #OrlandoCity immediately turns the GAM around to Atlanta for Jake Mulraney. Left-footed player who will give the Lions another option on the left wing, can also play as a wingback in a back five. Nice get from the FO. https://t.co/SWjTN5Fhfj

Looks like we got a player that lasted more than 2 games in Scotland pic.twitter.com/TvhnMYwu6u

We lost Gaston and probably VDW. Pato’s injury record is not the greatest.
While yes, we still could use a depth CB, this was a much needed signing.

Think they are upset that he went to us… 50 apps with only like 3 goals, not sure he is going to be game breaker…. we need a cheap sub since we are shallow in attacked depth right now…

I also imagine this is because Gaston Gonzalez tore his ACL.

Mulraney is our first MLS player acquisition since Robinho in 2019.
