Just when you thought Orlando City SC were done this MLS Secondary Transfer Window, the Lions yesterday announced the 12-month loan signing of Iván Angulo.

The 23-year-old Colombian winger has arrived at Exploria Stadium from Brazilian side Palmeiras following another loan spell at Portimonense in Portugal for their 2021/22 Primeira Liga season.

Signing Jake Mulraney on May 5, and Nicholas Gioacchini on July 20, Iván Angulo is the third winger to arrive in Central Florida this mid-season.

With Orlando City SC desperately struggling for goals (26) this MLS regular season, these signings not only provide depth but hopefully the attacking impetus to score more goals.

Despite Ercan Kara being City’s top goalscorer (7) right now, the big Austrian continues to look isolated and starved of genuine quality service.

A prolific goalscorer in the Austrian Bundesliga, hopefully Nicholas Gioacchini and Iván Angulo can provide Kara the crosses he’s been lacking.

Upon confirmation of the loan, Executive Vice President of Soccer Operations and General Manager Luiz Muzzi said: “Iván is a talented and creative winger that has international experience going to the FIFA U-20 World Cup for Colombia.

“We believe his ability to take players one-on-one and the danger he creates down the flanks are going to be great assets for us as we push towards the end of this season.”

With Iván Angulo now officially a Lion, Orlando City UK found out more about the Colombian wide man.

Who is Iván Angulo?

Iván Angulo is a 23-year-old Colombian left winger or right winger signed on a 12-month loan from Brazilian side Palmeiras.

Palmeiras is the side that City initially loaned Antônio Carlos from in December 2019.

Born in the port city of San Andrés de Tumaco, Angulo stands at 5 ft 10 in.

Despite being a Palmeiras player, Iván Angulo hasn’t yet made the grade for Verdão’s first team since joining from Colombia’s Envigado in 2020.

Spending three separate loan spells away from Allianz Parque since, these came at Cruzeiro (2020), Botafogo (2020/21), and Portimonense (2021/22).

Set to contest his fourth loan spell at Orlando City SC, Iván Angulo is looking to find a real home to kick on during his early career.

Since beginning his professional career in 2017, Angulo has tallied four goals and five assists across 65 appearances in all competitions.

On the international stage, Iván Angulo started all five matches in Colombia’s run to the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup quarter-finals.

Scoring one goal and registering three assists during that tournament, he’s also won four U-23 caps for Colombia too.
