Orlando City SC‘s 2023 recruitment drive is already underway with the Lions announcing the signing of Toronto FC defender Luca Petrasso yesterday.
Trading $300,000 in 2023 General Allocation Money to TFC, Luca Petrasso joins City as a Homegrown Player and is automatically protected in Friday’s 2022 MLS Expansion Draft.

Who is Luca Petrasso?
Luca Petrasso is a 22-year-old left back who has joined Orlando City SC from hometown club Toronto FC.
A versatile player also capable of playing at left midfield and left wing, 2022 was Petrasso’s debut season in Major League Soccer.
Making 23 appearances (1,684 minutes) for Bob Bradley’s TFC, 21 of these were starts.
Also recording four assists throughout the year, Luca Petrasso grabbed his first assist on his MLS debut on March 5, 2022.
Petrasso set up Jesús Jiménez’s goal in Toronto FC’s 1-4 loss to New York Red Bulls at BMO Field.
Overall, 2022 was a proud year for Luca Petrasso who successfully graduated from Toronto FC’s academy.
Previously representing Toronto FC III and Toronto FC II, 2023 will be the first year Luca Petrasso has played for a team outside his native Toronto.
Nevertheless, he can ask his older and well-travelled brother Michael Petrasso about his career experiences so far.
Also a youth product of TFC, Michael started his senior career at QPR in England.
He then spent loan spells away from Loftus Road at Oldham Athletic, Coventry City, Leyton Orient, and Notts County.
This was before transferring to Major League Soccer with Toronto FC’s fierce rivals Montreal Impact in 2018.
Michael Petrasso is a senior Canadian international who has won six caps and Luca Petrasso will hope to perform on this stage like his brother.
Internationally speaking, Luca Petrasso represented Canada U-17 at the 2017 CONCACAF U-17 Championship in Panama, earning three caps in that tournament.
