Orlando City SC‘s winter recruitment drive is showing no signs of slowing down! Today, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano tweeted that City are close to announcing the signings of Ramiro Enrique and Dagur Dan Thórhallsson.

With César Luis Merlo and Tom Bogert breaking news of Enrique on January 10, Dagur Dan Thórhallsson is a central midfielder and a new name to Lions fans this off-season.

Who is Dagur Dan Thórhallsson?

Dagur Dan Thórhallsson is a 22-year-old Icelandic central midfielder.

Capable of playing in attacking midfield and at left wing too, he is set to join Orlando City SC from Breiðablik in his native Iceland.

He hails from Hafnarfjörður, a port town just south of Iceland’s capital city Reykjavík.

Right-footed, Thórhallsson stands at 5 ft 9 in.

As a youth, he spent 2017/18 in the academy ranks of Belgian side Gent, plus a 2019 loan spell at Norwegian side Kvik Halden FK.

Nevertheless, Dagur Dan Thórhallsson has spent most of his professional career in his Icelandic homeland.

Starting pro with hometown club Haukar in 2016, Breiðablik is Dagur Dan Thórhallsson’s sixth professional club.

In between, Thórhallsson previously represented Keflavík, Mjøndalen, Kvik Halden FK, and Fylkir.

Son of former Iceland international defender Thórhallur Dan Jóhannsson, Thórhallsson has also made the breakthrough at international level himself.

Representing Iceland from U-16 to U-21 level between 2016 and 2022, Dagur Dan Thórhallsson made his senior Iceland debut in 2022.

Thórhallsson started in a November 2022 loss (0-1) to Saudi Arabia as part the Green Falcons‘ 2022 FIFA World Cup preparations.

Earning four senior international caps to date, Thórhallsson’s second appearance came as a sub against South Korea only five days later.

According to Transfermarkt, Dagur Dan Thórhallsson has made 116 appearances across all competitions in his professional career so far, tallying 18 goals and 11 assists.

When signed, Thórhallsson will become the first ever player from Iceland to represent Orlando City SC.

The only other Icelander to represent our purple fraternity is Gunnhildur Yrsa Jónsdóttir, a current member of Orlando Pride.
