Twitter reacts to… the new 2023 Orlando City SC home jersey

After much anticipation, the new 2023 Orlando City SC home jersey – “The Wall Kit” – has officially been unveiled today at a launch event hosted at Exploria Stadium.

Revealing the new look of our home purple with just seven days to go until 2023 kicks off, The Wall Kit is our fifth home jersey design in Major League Soccer to date.

The early jersey tease

The Wall Kit was first teased back on Tuesday, February 14.

Orlando City SC subtly tweeted (and pinned) “2.18.23 /// Man Every Wall” alongside a short video of a City player’s blacked out silhouette.

Or maybe it was teased even sooner?

For the eagle-eyed among us, Orlando City SC‘s Twitter cover photo, first uploaded in January, not only featured Facundo Torres with the word “VAMOS” emblazoned across him in capital letters.

This photo subtly featured the text “Man Every Wall” repeated around a dark and light purple brickwork pattern.

After today’s launch event, this same dark and light purple brickwork pattern is indeed repeated on the main body of the new 2023 Orlando City SC home jersey.

On Thursday, February 16, Orlando City SC tweeted two more teasers prior to the official February 18 unveiling.

This year, the 2023 Orlando City SC home jersey boasts a simple, yet stylish look as we’ve grown accustomed to on previous home purple designs.

Orlando City SC CMO Pedro Araujo said: “Our supporters have continuously served as the heartbeat of our stadium, from the moment they begin their march down Church Street to the continuous drumbeat that paces our players all 90 minutes.

“We are proud to unveil a kit that represents and pays tribute to the loyalty, passion and energy that they bring each match.

“We’re excited to have our fans ‘Man Every Wall’ – from the front row to the top of stadium and all around our 360-degree bowl – as we get the season underway and show why our supporters are the best in Major League Soccer.”

The 2023 Orlando City SC home jersey carries two main colours – purple and gold.

Rather than white, Orlando City SC‘s secondary colour of gold features more prominently this year.

The iconic three Adidas stripes appear in gold (not white) and run part way down the right and left shoulders.

Additional gold features include the club’s contemporary Orlando Health sponsor logo and the right and left sleeve cuffs.

The Apple TV logo is also gold and adorns the left sleeve after their historic broadcasting partnership with MLS was struck in June 2022.

Elsewhere, one MLS sleeve patch featuring gold lettering and purple bordering features on the left sleeve.

The updated home design incorporates a round neck for the first time too.

Prior to 2023, three of Orlando City SC‘s previous four home jerseys in MLS have included a V-neck.

Compared to all eight previous MLS seasons, the right sleeve remains blank (for now) as Orlando City SC actively looks for a sleeve sponsor.

In March, the right sleeve will feature a CONCACAF Champions League patch for our tournament participation.

Elsewhere, “adidas” is no longer spelled out beneath the company’s iconic Three Stripes.

In 2022, the German sports manufacturer introduced their new minimalist company logo, employing only the Three Stripes, as we first saw on multiple jerseys at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Gold, not white, MLS lettering and numbers in the contemporary MLS 25th anniversary font will adorn the back of the jersey – a first for Orlando City SC in MLS.

Unique features

Unique features on the 2023 Orlando City SC home jersey include the text “Man Every Wall” encircled by bricks on the rear neckline of the authentic version of the jersey.

Unlike previous seasons, there is disappointingly no jock tag that features in the bottom left hand corner of the jersey front.

However, the repeated text “Man Every Wall” also runs vertically from the pit down either side of the jersey.

As for the new kit as a whole, purple shorts and purple socks will complete the updated home look for Oscar Pareja‘s Lions.

Buying in the UK?

To buy the 2023 Orlando City SC home jersey, this is always easier if you’re visiting Central Florida in person.

Currently available to purchase on MLSStore.com, this does involve infamous international shipping costs however.

Unfortunately for Brits, Kitbag.com ceased any updates to their Orlando City SC jersey inventory at the end of 2019.

In 2022, even Adidas.co.uk and Pro:Direct Soccer didn’t stock the Thick N Thin home jersey, or The Sunshine Kit away jersey.

As always, Orlando City UK will be doing some investigative work. We’ll let you know if any British retailer is stocking the 2023 Orlando City SC home jersey.
