After drawing 1-1 against Atlanta United at Exploria Stadium, Oscar Pareja‘s Orlando City SC now visit Harrison, New Jersey to face New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena.

Last defeating Red Bulls 1-0 in our 2023 MLS home opener back on February 25, Gerhard Struber stood on the touchline that day but Troy Lesesne is now the head coach of the Eastern Conference side.

It’s been a really difficult 2023 campaign so far for New York Red Bulls – both on and off the field.

One of Major League Soccer’s most storied franchises, MLS Cup continues to elude the New Jersey side who were one and done in the 2022 MLS Cup Playoffs.

Currently languishing eleventh in the Eastern Conference, Red Bulls have gone 4-7-5 so far this season.

Back on May 8, they dismissed former head coach Gerhard Struber.

Not only facing heavy scrutiny for poor results, Struber controversially kept striker Dante Vanzeir in an infamous match against San Jose Earthquakes earlier this season.

With Vanzeir admitting to using a racial slur against the Quakes’ Jeremy Ebobisse on the field, the Belgian was subsequently suspended for six MLS fixtures.

A ridiculously lenient punishment for a felony so gross, Dante Vanzeir was acclimated back into the Red Bulls’ matchday squad for their 2-1 win over CF Montréal on May 20.

Vanzeir’s disturbing admission has cast a dark cloud over New York Red Bulls this season.

As for current Red Bulls head coach Troy Lesesne, he will remain in the role until the end of the season.

This was after being promoted from the assistant coach role following Gerhard Struber’s exit.

As for Orlando City SC, they have happy memories from their last visit to Red Bull Arena in August 2022.

Running out 0-1 winners on the road, Facundo Torres‘ solitary first-half strike was enough to steal away three precious points.

At the time, the Lions were desperate for a victory to get their noses back above the red line and fortunately, City held on all the way to protect Torres’ 17th minute opener.
