According to a Wednesday article from Belgian source Het Laatste Nieuws, Anderlecht are reportedly interested in signing Orlando City SC striker Duncan McGuire.

With The Athletic previously confirming Anderlecht’s interest in the 22-year-old, Het Laatste Nieuws’s article suggests talks have already been held with McGuire’s entourage.

This transfer rumour, whether true or not, is interesting for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, because Duncan McGuire is only 12 Major League Soccer appearances into his professional career.

And secondly, because the Omaha, Nebraska born centre forward is currently under contract until December 31, 2023.

McGuire was only signed by Orlando City SC back in December 2022.

The sixth overall pick in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft, Anderlecht clearly see a ton of potential in the rookie.

You’re certainly not linked with a European giant so early in your career if you’re not talented.

In 2023, Orlando City SC supporters have witnessed first-hand the goalscoring prowess of the the former Creighton Men’s Soccer forward.

Despite his inexperience, McGuire has already scored four MLS goals and registered two assists.

His first MLS goal came at D.C. United in a 1-1 draw back in March 2023.

Since then, Duncan McGuire came up clutch at Minnesota United (1-2) in April.

Scoring an 88th minute game winner off the bench, this has been his career high point so far.

Most recently, he rescued an unlikely road point by scoring a 92nd minute equaliser against Columbus Crew (2-2) in May.

Clearly not fazed by the big occasion, McGuire’s fast-track form has put more pressure on first choice forward Ercan Kara to perform.

With two sharp-shooters at Oscar Pareja‘s disposal, Orlando City SC supporters will hope Duncan McGuire sticks around for a long while yet.

McGuire has already earned the witty nickname “Orlando Runs on Duncan” in the Orlando City SC community.

This is a homage to Dunkin’ Donuts’ famous “American Runs on Dunkin’” company slogan!

With Sacha Kljestan, Kemar Lawrence, Michael Amir Murillo, and Andy Najar having all represented Anderlecht, the fellow purple side are certainly no strangers to recruiting players directly from North America.
