Twitter reacts to… Luiz Muzzi and Ricardo Moreira’s Orlando City SC promotions

Just eight days after Oscar Pareja signed a new three-year deal as Orlando City SC head coach, yesterday saw Luiz Muzzi promoted to Senior Advisor to Ownership, Global Soccer Ventures and Ricardo Moreira to the role of General Manager & Sporting Director.

Luiz Muzzi, formerly Executive Vice President of Soccer Operations & General Manager, and Ricardo Moreira, formerly Vice President of Soccer Operations & Technical Director, received their most recent promotions in February 2024.

In short, this dynamic Brazilian duo have played a pivotal role in driving City’s player recruitment and propelling the club’s upward trajectory since they joined ahead of the 2019 season.

Muzzi, Moreira, and Orlando City SC: The story so far

Both hired ahead of the 2019 season, Ricardo Moreira joined from Columbus Crew and Luiz Muzzi reunited with Oscar Pareja after working together at FC Dallas.

During their time in Central Florida so far, Muzzi and Moreira have brought a whole host of game-changing signings to Inter&Co Stadium.

These players include Pedro Gallese, Antônio Carlos, Daryl Dike, Robin Jansson, Duncan McGuire, Facundo Torres, and Júnior Urso.

We can all agree that these players have had a transformational effect on City’s on-field fortunes in Major League Soccer under Oscar Pareja.

As for Ricardo Moreira in particular, his talent scouting, deep knowledge of the South American market, and strong track record at Orlando City SC have been hugely impressive.

So much so that D.C. United tried – and failed – to recruit him for their General Manager role before ultimately hiring Ally Mackay in November 2023.
