With just 24 days until our MLS home opener against New York City FC and just 10 days until the Orlando City Invitational fixture against the same opposition, Orlando City SC has now revealed their squad numbers for 2019.
With James O’Connor‘s Lions extremely active in the transfer market this off-season having brought in over 10 new faces, here’s what numbers our new-look Lions squad will be wearing this year.
Goalkeepers
Mason Stajduhar and Adam Grinwis retain squad numbers 31 and 99 from the Lions’ 2018 MLS season respectively.
Elsewhere Greg Ranjitsingh, a winter signing from James O’Connor‘s former club Louisville City, inherits number 18 last worn by Dom Dwyer in 2017.
These trio of goalkeepers could soon be joined by former LA Galaxy stopper Brian Rowe who is currently on trial with the Lions.
Defenders
Orlando City SC defenders Shane O’Neill, Lamine Sané and Carlos Ascues retain the same squad numbers from the Lions’ 2018 MLS campaign.
Winter arrivals Ruan, Alex De John and Kyle Smith take squad numbers 2, 3 and 24, last worn by Jonathan Spector, Amro Tarek and Lewis Neal respectively.
Elsewhere, Danilo Acosta and João Moutinho inherit squad numbers 25 and 44, the same numbers they wore for previous clubs Real Salt Lake and Los Angeles FC. The last Lions to wear these numbers were Donny Toia and David Mateos.
Winter arrivals from college Scott DeVoss and Kamal Miller are yet to receive squad numbers for the upcoming season.
Midfielders
Orlando City SC midfielders Will Johnson, Dillon Powers, Cristian Higuita, Josué Colmán, Pierre da Silva, Cam Lindley, Sacha Kljestan and Uri Rosell all retain their same squad numbers from the Lions’ 2018 MLS campaign.
New winter signing and Ecuador international Jhegson Méndez inherits the squad number 8, last worn by Tony Rocha, following his off-season switch from Independiente del Valle.
Forwards
Orlando City SC forwards Dom Dwyer and Chris Mueller retain squad numbers 14 and 17 from the Lions’ 2018 MLS season respectively.
Elsewhere Tesho Akindele, our first signing of the off-season, inherits squad number 13 which he wore during each of his four years on FC Dallas’ roster. The last Lion to wear squad number 13 was Mohamed El-Munir who departed Orlando City Stadium for Los Angeles FC this off-season.
Young Orlando natives Benji Michel and Santiago Patiño inherit squad numbers 19 and 29 last worn by Yoshimar Yotún and Stéfano Pinho respectively.
