Earlier this week, Orlando City SC Executive Vice President of Soccer Operations Luiz Muzzi teased Lions fans with the possibility of one more signing this off-season.

On the eve of the Lions’ 2019 MLS opener against New York City FC, Swedish newspaper Sportbladet are claiming Swedish international centre back Robin Jansson is close to joining Orlando City SC.

According to the Scandinavian source, Orlando City SC have already tabled a bid for the 27-year-old centre back who is currently on the books of Stockholm giants AIK.

With a deal described as “close” in a translated version of the original article, Orlando City SC supporters are watching this space following the recent furore of the Nani signing.

While this rumour may prove mere coincidence, Luiz Muzzi told ProSoccerUSA.com earlier this week: “We’re possibly still looking at, maybe, one addition.

“I think that, from there, we’re going to be done. That’s possibly. Lots of things that we’re still working on. For now, it’s just the possibility out there. But we’re very close to done. We’ve got a great group of guys.”

Who is Robin Jansson?

Standing at 6 ft 1 1⁄2 in, Robin Jansson is on an upward curve in his career having earned his first senior international cap with Sweden back on January 8.

Starting an international friendly against Scandinavian rivals Finland, the centre back played the full 90 minutes in the exhibition match contested at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in Doha, Qatar.

Over at club level, spring 2018 saw Robin Jansson depart IK Oddevold of the Swedish first division for the bright lights of AIK and Allsvenskan – the Swedish top flight.

In only a year, the 27-year-old has become one of AIK’s most integral players making a total of 25 appearances in a title winning campaign for the Friends Arena based side.

Room for one more?

This off-season has seen the Orlando City SC Front Office recruit eight defenders with four of these capable of playing at centre back in Carlos Ascues, Alex De John and Kamal Miller plus João Moutinho to a lesser extent.

But with the contract status of Kamal Miller currently unclear, there definitely seems room to accommodate Robin Jansson with Shane O’Neill and Lamine Sané representing James O’Connor‘s likely first choice options.

Orlando City UK continues to monitor the latest developments to this interesting transfer story.
