Drafted 6th overall in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft, star striker and USMNT player Duncan McGuire has now signed a new contract through 2027 with a club option in 2028. This keeps Big Dunc at Inter&Co Stadium for at least the next three-and-a-bit seasons. Should McGuire move on during this period, at least the Lions can now command a higher fee for him.
A story first broken by Tom Bogert on August 14, McGuire’s new deal has been music to City supporters’ ears. A hugely popular player and undoubtedly one of the best players Orlando City SC have ever drafted, McGuire will not be moving to Europe as many expected. Instead, he will now stay in Central Florida to help the Lions try and achieve their MLS Cup dreams!

Football really is a funny old game, isn’t it?
Back in December 2023, Orlando City SC rejected Blackburn Rovers’ loan offer for Duncan McGuire.
This was before late January / early February 2024 which saw a truly crazy transfer saga unfold!
Firstly, on January 28, Orlando City SC rejected Sheffield Wednesday’s permanent offer for McGuire.
Then, on England’s January transfer window deadline, Blackburn announced that they had finally signed McGuire on a six-month loan.
This included a reported purchase option of around $7 million, plus $2.5 million in add-ons.
But just a week later, after an EFL Board Meeting, McGuire’s move officially collapsed due to an ‘administrative error’.
In a truly farcical clerical error, Rovers only clicked “save” and not “submit paperwork” before the deadline.
That is all history now however, and Orlando City UK is delighted to hear that Duncan McGuire has committed to Orlando City SC for the foreseeable future.
Since May, McGuire has once again been linked with Blackburn Rovers, as well as Legia Warsaw and Torino too.
However, a transfer hasn’t come to pass and that is most certainly Orlando City SC’s gain.
After the honour of representing the USMNT U-23 team at the 2024 Summer Olympics, Duncan McGuire can now focus on helping City secure a spot in the 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs, confident that his future is settled.
Having scored 20 goals in 48 Major League Soccer appearances so far, there is nobody around the league who doesn’t know about Duncan McGuire and his clinical finishing ability.
