The number of Orlando City SC off-season departures now stands at six after Canadian international defender Kamal Miller joined Montreal Impact yesterday.

Selected by Austin FC as their fifth and final selection in yesterday’s 2020 MLS Expansion Draft, 23-year-old Miller was immediately acquired by Impact. This was in return for $225,000 in 2021 General Allocation Money, a 2021 MLS SuperDraft first round pick, and $50,000 in conditional 2021 General Allocation Money.

Leaving Exploria Stadium having made 30 appearances over two full MLS seasons, Kamal Miller started 10 of 14 games for Orlando City SC in 2020.

The centre back turned left back started more games than he might’ve following the season-ending injury to João Moutinho at Atlanta United on August 29.

Selected by Orlando City SC as the 27th overall pick in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft, Kamal Miller went from boy to man in his time with the Lions.

A player that still has a high ceiling given he’s just 23, Miller enjoyed an unforgettable 2019 on a personal note.

In the space of 2019, Kamal Miller signed his first MLS contract, started Orlando City SC‘s 2019 opener against New York City FC, and made his senior international debut for Canada at the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

A self-confessed Toronto FC fan, Kamal Miller now returns home to Canada to join The Reds’ arch-rivals.

A transfer that probably caused its fair share of banter in the Miller household, Orlando City UK wishes Miller the very best of luck as he embarks on this latest chapter of his career.

We also thank Kamal Miller for his exclusive interview with Orlando City UK back in August 2019.

With #OCTwitter still reacting to the news of Kamal Miller‘s departure, Orlando City UK gathered the best tweets following the announcement.
